The Machame Route is one of the more scenic routes up the mountain. Generally a 6-day climb, you’ll start on the southwestern side of the mountain, then descend on the southeastern side.
The most technically demanding of the Kilimanjaro routes, Machame is also perhaps the most rewarding, offering ever changing scenery over an 8-day trek.
The Machame Route is Kilimanjaro’s second most popular route, allowing more time for acclimatisation than Marangu, though it is also steeper and more challenging. This camping-based route takes you past sights such as the Lava Tower and Shira Cathedral, descending along the Mweka Route to offer you a wide variety of scenery.
